What is GPACAC?

Great Plains Association for College Admission Counseling, GPACAC (Juh-pack'-ack) n. [slang for the acronym] 1. an organization of professionals dedicated to serving students as they explore options and make choices about post-secondary education 2. a three-state/regional organization serving high school guidance counselors and college admission professionals in the states of Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma 3. a group dedicated to encouraging, advocating and facilitating equal access to post-secondary education and fostering communication among college-bound students, families and institutions 4. school professionals committed to maintaining high standards which foster ethical and social responsibility among those involved in the secondary school to college transition process.

GPACAC is one of 23 state and regional affiliates of the National Association for College Admission Counseling, (NACAC). NACAC represents over 8,100 members at secondary and college and university levels of education, 23 state/regional affiliates, and in a variety of organizations and agencies. Through its members, tens of thousands of students and parents are also represented. NACAC is both national and international; secondary school and college members hail from 50 states, U.S. territories, and more than 25 foreign countries.

The Great Plains Association for College Admission Counseling offers unique tools and resources to help members stay current on the college admissions landscape.

    • Professional Development GPACAC offers training through drive-in workshops and webinars which are available to high school counselors and college admission professionals. Financial aid, admission practices, technology, and the NCAA are just a few topics presented at these events.

    • Annual Conference Each year members gather in April to discuss current trends, network, and learn new ideas to implement to better serve the families they work with.

    • Newsletters and Resources Publications and communications provide professional tools and current information about trends affecting college admission counseling.

    • College Fairs - held each spring in Kansas City, Wichita, Omaha, Lincoln, Tulsa, and Oklahoma City.

    • Grant opportunities for professional development and special projects.

    • Student Scholarships - one per state.

    • Networking with admission and college counseling professionals from across the region.

    • Member to member E-list.

NACAC Knowledge Center

NACAC is a trusted source for valuable professional information. So it makes perfect sense that NACAC is host to a collection of resources for members to use in helping their students and families through the admission process. The Knowledge Center is a member benefit with hundreds of resources, arranged by topic areas to help you keep up with professional and societal trends affecting college admission counseling. You simply need your NACAC username and password to gain access.

Main topical areas are Admission, Counseling, Financing College, and Professional Ethics. Within each category, you will find subcategories of topics related to your area of interest. Each page includes articles and discussion papers, brochures, presentations, models and samples, and newsletters to help you do your job more efficiently.

The NACAC Knowledge Center is a forum for sharing tools and resources for the college admission counseling profession. You are invited to submit models and samples of materials you use in your daily work. Submissions can be sent to [email protected].

If your institution requires additional information prior to supplying payment, please contact GPACAC Executive Assistant, Debbie Kremers at [email protected]. Registration is open to all post-secondary educational institutions and post-secondary education associated departments. Refunds will not be available for institutions canceling within 2 weeks of a given college fair. 

Follow up information with logistics and FYIs will be sent to all participating representatives starting February 1 and approximately every week prior to the College Fairs thereafter.  In the meantime, please feel free to contact GPACAC College Fair Chair at [email protected].
